Final Answer – Chapter 4

In the Last Chapter…

Thanks to his good moods from being with Sarah, Jason is able to communicate with his parents more easily, and they admit they don’t need to see the permission form. Plus, he’s getting better at communicating with Rose, or so he thinks. In reality, she just thinks he has feelings for her, which just makes him mad. Jason realizes he’s getting romantic feelings for Sarah, but he keeps it down, even as they sneak back to the library and she gives him a blowjob. At Quiz Bowl practice, Jason learns that Rose is a seriously talented artist, and also learns that Ryan is a bit too intense, after Ryan needlessly calls him out on not being good enough. Annoyingly, Sarah doesn’t defend Jason—because she feels bad about the hickies on her neck from their encounter—but weirdly, Rose does defend him. The dynamics of the Quiz Bowl team are getting more blurred seemingly by the day.

Chadwick looked us over. “40-point individual answer relay. Each team will have the opportunity to answer up to four questions, one person at a time. As with regular rounds, each person has to buzz in, but can only answer a question once. If a team gets all four questions correct, they get ten bonus points. If a team member gets any questions wrong or no team member buzzes in, the relay stops and you only get the points you’ve previously earned. No points can be lost in the relay. Consultation is permitted.”

“Woah, that’s new,” Jack murmured.

“Will this format be at Districts?” Ryan asked.

“It’s very likely, yes,” Chadwick replied.

“Wait, I don’t get it,” I said, scratching my head.

“Basically there’s four questions, and each question needs a different team member to answer it,” Ryan answered. “If you answer one, you can’t answer another, but you have to answer one of them.”

“In other words, if I know any of these, let me answer that one,” Jack laughed. “Because I don’t think the odds are great I’ll know all four.”

“Oh no,” Candy mumbled, looking around.

“Here we go,” Chadwick announced. “40-point individual relay. Abbreviations. I’ll give an abbreviation, you tell me what it stands for. AM.”

“Oh hey!” Jack piped up, then motioned to us. “Don’t worry, I got this.” He buzzed in. “Ante Meridiem.”

“Correct!” Chadwick replied, a little surprised.

“How the…” Candy breathed. Jack just winked at her.

“SUV,” Chadwick continued.

Jack, Candy and I looked at each other. “I don’t know it,” I whispered.

“I don’t…” Candy trailed off, looking lost.

“I do, all good,” Ryan replied coolly. Then why didn’t he just buzz in? Or better yet, buzz off? Asshole. “Sports Utility Vehicle.”

“Correct,” Chadwick replied. “RN.”

“I know this one,” I told them. “Can I-?”

“You’re sure, right?” Ryan asked back. “Just to be sure, it’s Registered Nurse.”

Holy fuck. “Uh, yeah, I knew that,” I replied angrily. I buzzed in. “Registered Nurse.”

“Correct,” Chadwick replied. “IQ.”

Jack turned to Candy. “You good?” he asked her.

“I think so,” she replied with a smile. She hesitated for another second, then buzzed in. “Intelligence Quota.”

Chadwick clicked her tongue. “I’m sorry, that’s incorrect. The correct answer was Intelligence Quotient.”

The group groaned. “Sorry, guys,” Candy sheepishly told us.

“All good,” Jack told her coolly.

“I guess I should have asked you guys first,” she continued.

I couldn’t resist, and turned to Ryan. “But hey, thanks for telling me, and only me, what my answer was, after I said I got this. At least we have the dumbass covered, right?”

“Jason,” Chadwick said warningly.

Jack coughed nervously. “I mean, hey, if we learned anything from this, it’s that we should confirm every answer with each other,” he pointed out diplomatically. “That way we’re sure of every answer, and…” He gestured to me. “…It never feels like we’re singling one person out. Win-win.”

“Okay, back to the game,” Chadwick added uneasily. I did feel bad for always being in fights, but it wasn’t my fault some of the people here were dicks. “40-point snapout to end the round. Name the US swimmer who won seven gold medals at the 1972 Olympic Games.”

Ryan buzzed in. “Mark Spitz.”

“Correct,” Chadwick replied. “Which king of Portugal invaded Morocco in 1578 with a large group of mercenaries?”

Jack made a face, then hesitantly buzzed in. “It wouldn’t happen to be… Sebastian, would it?”

“It would indeed, well done Jack!” Chadwick replied, surprised again. “What island is separated from mainland Africa by the Mozambique Channel?”

Only one island near Africa I knew. “Madagascar,” I answered.

“Correct. What is the name of the baby on The Simpsons?”

I buzzed in again. I didn’t even watch it, but Dad left Fox on often enough. “Maggie.”

“Correct. This ends the round,” Chadwick concluded. “Did anyone catch the score?”

Rose cleared her throat. “600 even.”

“Not bad at all,” Jack replied, nodding. He offered a high five to Candy. “Way to go.”

Candy clearly didn’t share his outlook, not taking his high five. “I got one question right,” she moped.

“But did you have fun?” he teased back.

“No.”

Jack lowered his hand. “Yeah, well,” he replied awkwardly. “Some games you won’t have fun. If it means anything, I enjoyed having ya here.”

She smiled weakly at him. I looked at Chadwick. “Are we doing one more after this?”

She glanced at her watch and nodded. “Districts is this Friday. We should get in the practice.”

“Cool,” I replied, then got up. “Who wants in?”

“I will,” Sarah replied quietly, standing up. Ever since last week’s library session she hadn’t been the same. She didn’t want to hang out nearly as much, and she tried me with this weird “kind coldness” at Quiz Bowl. I didn’t realize a few hickies would be such a big deal.

I plopped down next to Rose and watched as the other four made pre-game talk. I would have zoned out, but I felt Rose elbow me.

I turned to her. “What?”

“I would have yelled at Ryan too,” Rose whispered. “That was bullshit.”

“I didn’t yell at him, did I?” I asked with a frown, and was met with silence. “Thanks though. It was bullshit.” I paused, then chuckled. “Next time will you have my back?”

I figured she’d get mad at me for being weird or something, but she simply replied, “Only after everyone else leaves. I have a reputation to uphold.”

I chuckled again.

Tuesdays sucked. Nothing interesting happened on Tuesdays. It was just one class after another, then after school was over, it was straight to prison. Plus, sometimes Dad had Tuesday afternoons off, so that meant I would come home and immediately have to listen to his bullshit.

So even if I wanted to be awkward and hesitant with Sarah – and a part of me really did, just to punish her for being weird and awkward with me – I was happy to jump at the opportunity when she approached my locker again.

“Hey, did you wanna maybe go to th-”

“Library? Sure!” I said eagerly.

She giggled. “You’re making this too easy,” she commented. “I thought you’d be, I dunno, weird about it.”

“I want to be weird about it,” I found myself honestly admitting. “But I honestly thought that was it for us. Y’know, I thought we were done or something.”

She rolled her eyes. “Jason, there’s gonna be weird moments. You have to handle it and roll with the punches.”

“‘The punches’ always seem to be Ryan acting like a douche,” I countered.

“Yeah well, you weren’t exactly – ugh. I don’t want to go over this right now. Library, afterschool?”

“Yeah yeah,” I agreed, definitely still annoyed at Ryan’s behavior. “Library afterschool. Looking, uh, forward to it.”

She laughed. “Okay, Jason. Me too.” With that, she walked off.

***

“To be honest, you and Ryan are really similar,” Sarah said with a shrug as we walked through the library.

“Take that back,” I laughed with little humor in my voice. I didn’t want to be told that. I was nothing like the fucker.

She laughed. “Is there anyone in Quiz Bowl you plan on not getting into any fights with?”

I shrugged. “Candy seems cool.”

She laughed again, shaking her head. “Hothead,” she playfully accused. “I can understand Rose, especially lately, and I can understand Ryan I guess. Why Jack?”

“Wait, why lately?” I asked.

“You’ve seen her,” she mumbled with an eye roll. We started going up the library stairs together. “She can get really into the game and get a bit too… well, too mean. And she seems worse right now.”

“I feel like we’ve had the opposite conversation before,” I told her. “Wasn’t it one of the first conversations we had here?”

“Yeah well, it’s not like you were a hundred percent wrong,” she replied. “I just don’t like people who get too aggressive.”

“Apart from Ryan,” I teased.

“Nah, I don’t like when he gets too aggressive either,” she admitted. “Your turn. Why don’t you like Jack?”

“He’s just so… I dunno, he’s a pompous dick, to be honest,” I told her flatly. “He just acts like he’s so right and so great all the time. It’s like he sees himself as so funny and so kind, and we’re all just beneath him.”

Sarah paused, even stopping her walking for a step or two. “I… don’t see that at all,” she admitted. “First of all, he is funny. And kind. Second of all, I never felt like he thinks he’s better than us. I think you just don’t like how happy and in-your-face he can be.”

“Okay, fine, I don’t like in-your-face people,” I conceded. “But he can still be a pompous dick.”

“I think you can be judgmental,” Sarah replied, albeit with a smile. We reached the top of the stairs and made our way towards the reference section, and wasted no time once we got there. Within seconds we were walking to the reference section, with only one thing on our minds, despite our previous conversations. I barely waited until we were hidden away in some secluded section to wrap my arms around Sarah and kiss her deeply. She moaned, pushing against me and gleefully returning the kiss.

“Mmmh,” she moaned as our lips departed. “Wow, I needed that.”

“Me too,” I admitted. How the hell did I survive this long without someone to fool around with? It felt like I’d been missing out on the best thing ever. Our lips didn’t stay apart for long, and we eventually found ourselves mashed up against the nearest bookshelf, with my hands exploring all over her curvaceous, voluptuous body. A few weeks ago I would never have been so bold, but hey, experience helps.

My hands found their way down to her ass and took hold. I held her in place, grinding against her and kissing her neck, all while she sighed and whimpered.

“God, you’re making it tough for me,” she groaned.

I took my mouth off of her. “Making what tough?” I asked innocently, even as I kept grinding.

She smiled at me, not speaking for a few seconds. She bit her bottom lip and answered, “I think I want to bring you back to my place.”

That made me freeze. My mouth hung open, and she just blushed and looked away. “Or n-not. Sorry, that was stupid, w-wasn’t it?”

“No!” I nearly exclaimed. “It’s just like… y’know, it’s a big step. I’m, uh… I mean, I’m not nervous, but…”

She looked back at me and smiled. “Yeah,” she said quietly, timidly yet full of understanding. “I’m ‘not’ nervous too,” she added, making air quotes with her hands around the word “not.”

“Hey! Jeez, I’m just being honest…” I trailed off.

“Being honest would mean telling me you are nerv-”

“Okay, okay, I get it,” I cut her off, laughing. I shifted in place. “So like… both of us are nervous.”

“Sure looks like it, “she replied with a red face. “But do you want to?”

“Um, yeah. Do you? I asked, probably equally blushing.

She giggled. “Why would I suggest it if I didn’t want to? She asked rhetorically. We both stood there for a bit before wordlessly starting to walk out of the library. We didn’t want to say anything more to each other. In a weird way, if we did say anything, it might psych the other out. Too much talking, not enough doing. And now, she was, I assume, walking back to her place, with me in tow.

We walked down the stairs to the main floor, and started to head outside. On the way out, the worst thing that could have happened, happened.

Well, no, the worst thing would have been Ryan or my parents there or something. Or both. Or Hitler, I guess. Whatever. On the way out, I happened to catch someone’s gaze… and he returned it. Jack was at the library, sitting next to some cutie with black hair and glasses who had her nose in some book. He had no such book in front of him, and happened to see me… walking out with Sarah. Luckily, he didn’t call me over or even say anything, but instead, gave me a sly little smile and a two-finger salute. I didn’t know how to reply except by shrugging and following Sarah out of the library. She didn’t see him, but he definitely saw her. This wasn’t going to be fun.

As she and I walked towards her place, I thought about bringing it up, but something inside me said no, so I listened to that. If shit was going to happen, it would happen. There wasn’t really a need to draw it out or pretend like that shit was gonna go nuclear. And speaking of nuclear, I thought ahead and realized that Sarah wasn’t about to invite me to her place for ten minutes and then tell me to fuck off. I whipped out my shitty flip phone and texted my dad, letting him know. He probably didn’t give a shit where I was, but if I was late by even a minute, it was probably better to let him know before than after.

Sarah didn’t say much, but I chalked that up to nervousness. She just kept walking into the suburbs, into the better-off part of town. I thought it was some kind of shortcut to get back to her place, but before long, she shyly pointed off towards some McMansion.

“There it is,” she declared.

My jaw hung open and I stopped walking. “That’s your house?!” I asked incredulously.

She shrugged and blushed. “Yup,” she told me quietly. “My dad’s in real estate, and mom runs her own business. Self-care products and stuff.”

“And you bought that fuckin’ house with it? Jeez…” I murmured, still unable to process it. None of my online buddies would believe this. The richest one of them all was Klutz, and even he only got his big break recently.

My jaw did not come back up as the house got closer. The place was surrounded by big plants, some kind of little makeshift pond, and even had one of those video-recording doorbell thingies. Sarah didn’t have a key and instead put some passcode into a machine on the door, and let herself in.

“What the fuck are you doing in a public school?” I managed to ask, mouth still agape at the house. Perfectly white walls, some kind of air freshener plugged into the wall, and a lot of windows giving the place a natural lighting.

She laughed. “My parents got their money while I was at school,” she answered. “It was later on, like, first grade, but by then I’d made some friends. They actually did want me to go to private school but I said no. I wanted to stick with my friends.”

“Huh, and they let you? I thought rich parents are assholes,” I replied.

She gave me a face. “All I know is, mine aren’t,” she answered swiftly, then looked down. “You are going to want to take off your shoes though. That’s a hard rule with them.”

I did as she asked. “Are they here?”

“Probably not yet,” she replied, then turned to face the inside of the house. “Helloooo~?” she called, and got no answer. She turned back to me and shrugged.

With our shoes off, she guided me around the house, which included a kitchen (the fridge came with the water-filling station), the living room (complete with a home theater system any gamer would die to have), and the dining room (a room that may as well have a neon sign going, “RICH FUCKERS LIVE HERE,” every normal family just eats in the kitchen). Eventually, she came to her room, which had this old-school wood paneling, a record player, and lights that looked like candles.

“Woah,” I murmured, looking around.

“Decorated it myself,” she announced happily, sitting down on her double bed, giving me a shy smile. I was sure the look I was giving her back after seeing her on that bed wasn’t so shy. Her room was interesting and all, but I was in her bedroom for other reasons, and she knew that all too well.

Her smile turned more bashful as I got closer to her. Eventually I crawled up onto the bed and began kissing her, with our lips not bothering to part. We naturally ended up in a position where she was lying down and I was on top of her, softly grinding into her. This felt so much nicer and more natural in a bed… I could see why people didn’t choose to fuck in the library that often.

I didn’t know when we started taking off our clothes. My mind was somewhere else, and so were my hands, and so were my lips. I may as well have blinked and the next thing I knew, we were both just in our underwear, with me kissing Sarah’s neck, and the both of us grinding up against each other.

“Ahh… anhh…” Sarah moaned, biting her bottom lip and wincing in anticipation.

I came up and looked her in the eye, smiling at her. My eyes flickered down to her cotton panties. “Should we…” I trailed off, looking back and forth between her panties and her eyes.

She got the message, but even so, her brow furrowed. “Um, we shouldn’t go… all the way…” she replied uneasily.

I probably looked disappointed, but whatever, I kinda was. We left the library, went back to her place, and ended up on her bed, with her parents not even home to boot. And now, she was getting cold feet? “Oh,” I managed. “Okay.”

“Unless you maybe… wanted to…” she stammered, her deep blush returning.

“Huh?” I prompted her. “Wanted what?”

“If you… only if you wanted to… m-maybe… r-repay the favor from the last t-time…” she choked out.

I looked at her, confused, then my eyes flickered down to her panties again. Last time… last time she sucked my cock. She wanted me to eat her pussy.

I never even thought about doing that. My first reaction would be, “ew, gross, no,” but I didn’t really know why. Like, she sucked my cock before, but… I dunno, cocks at least seemed to make more sense. It’s a cylinder going in a mouth, and mouths are round. Pussies are like… they’re just a hole, right? What was oral even like with a pussy?

“I mean, you don’t have to,” Sarah continued, insecurely closing her legs.

Seeing her close her legs kind of bothered me. I had a lot to think about, but it didn’t mean I had to make her feel bad about it. I opened my mouth and said the first thing I could think of. “I mean, I don’t even know how…”

She paused. “But… would you want to?”

Not really, but… “You’d really like it, right?”

She blushed and nodded. Hey, last time, she sucked my cock, so maybe I did owe her a favor. How bad could it be? I nodded back, and she nervously took off her panties, gifting me with an unobstructed view of her pussy for the first time.

It didn’t look like a hole after all. It kind of looked like a slit. Like, I’d seen pussies in porn all the time, but… seeing one in person somehow felt different. Pussies in porn were done up to look some ideal, tidy, perfect little thing, but now looking at the real thing, it just made me realize how pussies in porn all looked… fake. This looked real, with wisps of red hair decorating it all around, and even a little birthmark next to her pussy.

Sarah laughed nervously. “You’re just… staring at it…”

I looked into her eyes and gave her my best reassuring smile. “I like what I see, that’s all,” I told her calmly. And it was true. There was something inside me that wanted to please her and make her feel good, and it all happened after seeing her pussy. Somehow, that moment just made this… real.

I felt my heartbeat get louder as I slowly lowered my head down towards her. “I, um… f-feel free to give me pointers, if you w-want,” I nervously told her.

“Is this your first time?” she asked.

“Well, jeez, yeah,” I admitted, blushing.

She giggled. “Okay, Jason,” she replied reassuringly, and reached down between her legs. She spread her pussy lips apart, giving me a clear view of her womanhood. “See this?” she pointed towards a top part.

I clued in. “That’s the clit, right?”

She smiled and bit her lip. “Hey look, fast learner,” she murmured.

I chuckled. “I’m not clueless about everything.”

“I’m not going to say I know what every girl likes, but I really like it when someone licks around this area down here…” She gestured to her hole, which was already visibly wet. “And then licks up to the clit. Then maybe afterwards, you could gently move your tongue on my clit, and… we’ll see how we feel.”

I nodded. Just vertical licking. “Just like, move it in general?” I asked.

She chuckled again. “Um, try writing letters on it with your tongue. I think I remember someone saying that once.”

Letters? Hey, alright, if that’s how it goes. I nodded again, and lowered my head. Here goes. I was about to eat my first pussy. I extended my tongue out, hesitated for a bit, then kept lowering until my tongue hit her.

I slowly licked up her slit until I got to the clit, and then used the tip of my tongue, moving it along her little button. She immediately started sighing and scrunched up her sheets with her hands. The taste actually wasn’t bad – the texture was a little slimy, but it didn’t taste like anything bad. Maybe a bit… metallic? But the most important thing wasn’t how it tasted, it was how Sarah felt.

I couldn’t help but watch her as I repeated my licking motion again. I watched her writhe and squirm in place, and realized I was doing that. I, Jason Anderson, was making her move like this. I was making her feel good.

“Unngh, Jason, fuuuck…” she moaned, moving around on the bed. “This is really good. You’re really good at this. Keep… keep going… don’t stop, please…”

I sure as hell didn’t stop. As I got used to how it felt, I got bolder, and Sarah clearly liked that. I went from gently extending the tip of my tongue, to using the whole tongue, lapping along her slit and playing with her little sensitive clit, all the while moving up onto the bed and grabbing her thighs to anchor me in. One of Sarah’s hands found its way onto the back of my head and her little pants and whimpers evolved into full-on moans. It became abundantly clear, very quickly, that any noises she made at the library were her holding back.

Her eyes sparkled and the blush on her face became a near permanent fixture every time I looked up at her. She didn’t return my gaze all that often, and just kept looking up at the ceiling, moaning and panting away. I was making her feel like this. Everything she was feeling right now was because of me. Eating pussy was actually pretty awesome.

I got my whole face into it, no longer satisfied to leave the job half-done. I was going to make Sarah cum, whatever it took. Sarah was soon humping my face, her moans only escalating, while I used techniques I never would have known before today.

“Fuuuuck Jason, yes, just like that, keep doing that, mmh, fuck, you’re making me go crazy…” she moaned like a woman possessed. I was making her go crazy. I would have smiled, if my mouth wasn’t busy. My mouth was starting to get tired, but I didn’t dare stop, and I watched her writhing reach an apex. She arched her back and moaned, and I swore I could feel her pussy’s muscles convulsing on tongue while she rode out what I sure hoped was a mind-bending orgasm.

“Oh my fuckin’ aaaaah…” she moaned, her feelings reaching a fever pitch. She closed her eyes, and then opened them almost out of sync, giving me an almost drunken grin. “Oh my fuckin’ God, Jason.”

“I did a good job, didn’t I?” I couldn’t resist asking smugly.

In her normal mood Sarah might have downplayed it, but she just moaned again and threw her head back. “An amazing job,” she confirmed. “Oh my God, I needed that.” She looked at me again as my head rose away from her pussy. Her gaze fixated between my legs. “And you, sir, need a reward,” she laughed, gathering the strength to get up.

“I mean, only if you want. You already sucked my cock in the library, so like, y’know…” I trailed off.

She looked at me with surprise. “I didn’t even know you could be modest, Jason,” she joked.

“Hey!”

“I don’t mind doing it twice,” she laughed. “I kinda… want your dick in my mouth anyway,” she admitted, biting her lip.

Holy fuck. I was the luckiest fucker on the planet. I smiled, taking my pants off, happy to reacquaint her with the cock she’d apparently been craving. My cock sprang into view, and Sarah, in turn, sprang into action. She went from laying on her bed to being off the bed, grabbing me by the shoulders and sitting me down on the bed as she sank down onto her knees in front of me. Only this time, she had no panties on, and I could see the curves of her amazing ass in person.

“You have such a great ass,” I admitted, admiring the view.

“Why thank you,” she giggled, bending sideways as much as she could while on her knees, trying to show it off. “You’re an ass guy, huh?”

I nodded. “Yours is so fucking hot. I love holding it when we kiss.”

“I could tell,” she laughed, but her smile remained on her face. “You’re a passionate guy, Jason. When you wanna be.”

“You make me wanna be,” I countered, and she smiled, taking my dick in one hand while she undid her bra with the other. Soon enough, she was topless and completely naked, and I was getting blown by the cute hipster rich kid, on her double bed. Life was fucking good.

Sarah wasn’t holding back here. She had no need to. Her library blowjob was hot, but her private bedroom blowjob was something else entirely. She assertively took my dick into her mouth and then beyond, working my cock with her mouth and throat muscles. As my cock slid in and beyond her mouth, the room was filled with the gluck, gluck, gluck sound of her efforts. I couldn’t help but groan, let my head hang back, and grab the back of her head for support. Sarah’s mouth sure knew its way around a cock. Fuck, she was attractive. She was so hot. I was falling for her, big time.

Sarah kept going, never relenting on her amazing cocksucking abilities, until I felt a telltale tightening in my balls. “Fuck, sarah, I’m getting there… I-I’m…” I panted.

The look she gave me, even with my cock in her mouth, was pure seduction, and she didn’t stop for a moment. She kept pumping her mouth away, determined to milk the cum out of me, and she got her wish and then some. With a final grunt, I felt a white-hot sensation in my cock and fireworks exploded across my mind. I felt shot after shot of sticky white cum shoot out of my cock, fired right into her mouth, maybe even directing down her throat. I had to keep my eyes closed, the sensations were just too overwhelming.

When I managed to open my eyes a second or so later, I saw the slut in front of me practically savoring the cum in her mouth before swallowing it. Fuck, Sarah really was a freak. I panted and chuckled, watching her, while she slowly took my cock out of her mouth.

“Holy shit,” I murmured, stroking my cock. “You’re incredible.”

“You’re not so bad yourself,” she countered with a new confident voice. “Fuck, I was almost hoping we wouldn’t click this much. Now I know I’m going to have to bring you over more often. After that, there’s no way I’ll be fine with just library stuff.”

“That works for me,” I laughed. The rich kid on the trivia team wanted me to come over, to suck my cock. I was wrong. Life wasn’t good, it was fuckin’ perfect.

***

My mood lasted well into Wednesday, the final practice before Districts. Even though my parents gave me an earful of shit last night for being late home, I didn’t even care. They didn’t run my life, they just ran the house. My life was so much more than that, at least it felt like that right now. I was on top of the world, and I didn’t want that to change for a good long while.

When I got to the room, nearly everyone was there. Ryan was at his desk, reading something – but who cared about him – and Jack was showing Candy something on his phone. When they saw me come in, both of them waved to me in sync. I waved back, glad to see Jack wasn’t giving me some bullshit knowing grin after seeing me with Sarah at the library yesterday. Sarah arrived in behind me, and she gave me a shy wave… before she gave one to Ryan. Flawless victory. I couldn’t help but give her a big grin as I waved back.

Chadwick was setting up the buzzers, and looked around. “Where’s…?”

I dunno if it was my good mood or what, but I got up. “Rose, right? Art room?” I asked Chadwick.

She was a little surprised. “Uh… yes. Thanks, Jason,” she mumbled. I nodded in response and set out to the art room, realizing I had a god damn spring to my step. Wow, I became a total gaywad over a girl. But shit, I was happy. I was totally cool with this being the new normal.

Sure enough, Rose was in the same place as she was before, hunched over her art book. I stopped in the doorway, watching her draw for a sec, and was tempted to walk up to her again.

Something… stopped me. Maybe it was the way she got freaked out the first time I did that. Maybe it was the way I felt like she wouldn’t appreciate me peering over her shoulder. I didn’t know. All I do know is, instead of walking up to her, I softly knocked on the door.

“Yo, it’s Quiz Bowl time,” I softly called out to her.

She turned around to face me, then to the clock. “Oh,” she remarked, beginning to put her book away. “Why didn’t you come in and snoop again? I thought you wanted to look at my art.”

I shrugged and leaned against the doorway. “You already said you were gonna show me sometime. That sounds cooler.”
She looked at me for a second, then rolled her eyes. “Yeah, okay,” she rebutted. She gathered her things and started to head out of the art room with me right behind her. “You could have just headed back, you know.”

“I could have!” I agreed. I would have thought she’d appreciate my agreeableness today, but instead, even as she walked, she just looked at me and scowled.

“What’s with you today?” she demanded. “You’re acting like you know something.”

“I’m just in a really good mood. I, uh, had a really good day yesterday,” I admitted. I wasn’t a dumbass, and knew that actually admitting I did something with Sarah would probably make the whole situation worse, but I couldn’t lie about how I felt.

“Yeah well, it’s still weird,” Rose replied tersely. “We already have one happy dumbass in the group, we don’t need two.”

“You wouldn’t catch me dead acting like Jack,” I laughed. “He’s kind of…”

“Smug, yeah,” Rose admitted. She looked at me slowly and chuckled. “You have your moments too.”

“Yeah, because you’re never smug,” I countered.

She slowly looked at me with one eyebrow lowered, though it didn’t look like she was legitimately angry with me. “Tell you what, if you get as many questions right as I do today, I’ll let you be smug all you want,” she challenged me.

“Oh great, I’ll have your permission to be smug,” I teased.

“Is that you backing down?” Rose asked me.

“You wish,” I laughed, then stopped. “Though I have a better idea.”

She stopped too, a hesitant worried look on her face.

“If I get more questions right than you today, you have to show me your art book after Quiz Bowl.”

She stared at me for a bit. “One page.”

“I get to choose which page,” I countered.

“How will you know which to pick?”

“You’ll have to tell me what drawings are on what page.”

“Deal,” she told me, then gave me a cheeky little smile. “It’s not like I’ll need to worry about losing anyway.”

I couldn’t help but smile back, shaking my head. Rose took the opportunity to walk into the physics room, all while I stood there and marveled at my luck. Was this happening because I was more confident? I needed to be confident more often.

***

“Who was the first American President to visit Moscow?” Chadwick asked.

Jack buzzed in. “Reagan?”

“I’m sorry, that’s incorrect,” Chadwick told him.

Ryan buzzed in. “FDR, right? World War 2 meetings?”

“Also incorrect,” Chadwick told him. Ryan sat back in his chair, dumbfounded.

Rose and I glanced at each other. I shrugged, I had nothing.

She concentrated hard and hesitantly buzzed in. “Richard Nixon.”

Chadwick smiled. “Well done, Rose,” she told her. “40-point snapout to end the round.”

This was it. I had only been keeping track of my own answers and not hers, but things looked grim. Even though this was a slow round, she still definitely was doing well enough to outperform me.

Chadwick cleared her throat. “What colloquial term, derived from a famous leader’s name, describes an alleged type of inferiority complex?”

I buzzed in. “Napoleon Syndrome.”

She paused, then frowned at the paper. “The paper says Napoleon Complex, but I’m going to allow it, correct.” I nodded and grinned. “How many knuckles are typically on a human hand?”

Ryan looked around then buzzed in. “Well, I mean, four.”

“Incorrect, I’m sorry,” Chadwick swiftly replied. “Anyone else?”

I looked at Jack, who was staring at his fist, clenching and unclenching. He caught my gaze and shrugged. “Sure looks like four.”

Rose was studying her hand too, then buzzed in. She didn’t say anything though, and Chadwick promptly piped up. “Rose, your answer please.”

Rose was busy counting things on her fingers. “Could it be… fourteen?”

“It is, well done,” Chadwick replied. “Stratocaster is a brand name of what kind of musical instrument?”

Jack buzzed in. “Ooh, that would be a guitar, baby!”

Sarah and Candy laughed from behind us. Chadwick nodded. “Correct, well done. Last question. What animal is valued as a pack animal on the treacherous slopes of Greek islands because of its steady gait?”

Jack’s face showed pure confusion. “Gait?”

No one said anything else for a while. “Three, two, one, time,” Chadwick reported. “The answer was ‘donkeys.’”

“Woah, that sounds cool. Maybe I should move to Greece,” Jack remarked. Ryan and Chadwick started talking about the score, but another number was a bit more important to me at the moment. Rose and I locked eyes and she dutifully slunk out of her chair and around to the other end of the small table, where I was. She didn’t want to talk over Ryan and Jack between us, I guess.

“What did you get?” she asked.

I wanted to lie. It was not my best performance ever. Still these were the rules of the game, and I had to respect that. “Eleven,” I begrudgingly admitted. “Do I even need to ask-”

“Twenty,” she replied, interestingly with no satisfaction on her face. “Tough luck.”

“Maybe someday,” I quipped back.

“I don’t recall saying this offer was open,” Rose told me. “This was a one-time thing. Like I said… tough luck.” With that, she walked back to her chair and sat back down. Wow, Rose. Wow.

Once she sat down, Ryan took notice of her temporary absence. “What were you two talking about?” he asked, almost accusingly. The tone was not lost on Rose, who immediately scowled at him.

“If I wanted to say it to you, I would have said it to you,” she replied with a weirded-out tone. I couldn’t help but smile – it was fun having the Rose tables turned on someone else.

Ryan looked back at me and noticed my smile. His expression didn’t lighten. “No, seriously, what was it about?” he demanded, looking between us. Jeez, what a nosy guy. I shot Sarah a look, though she was busy looking at Ryan.

Rose sighed. “Well Ryan, if you’re forcing it out of me, I just found it funny how you were getting on Jason’s case last meeting about getting questions wrong, but you don’t feel the need to point it out when you do it. That’s all.”

My smile turned shocked. Rose was outright lying, just to defend me. She wasn’t even upset at Ryan’s behavior – well, okay, she was probably upset at Ryan’s behavior too. But still! The tone of this defense seemed different than last time when she elbowed me.

Ryan took it about as well as I expected him to. He rolled his eyes and emitted a grunt. “Rose, maybe if you looked at things objectively and saw past your dumb crush on Jason…”

Rose rolled her eyes and grunted a noise of disgust. “Of course, there it is. After all, I can’t possibly be thoughtful to any man without it needing to be a helpless stupid little girl crush. Creepy, Ryan. Real creepy.”

Chadwick sighed. “Jason-”

“What did I do?!” I asked incredulously.

Chadwick’s eyes fixed on mine as if only just noticing me. “Oops, oh my goodness, I’m sorry. I meant Ryan.” She turned to Ryan. “Rose is not in the right to provoke you like that…” She shot a look at Rose. “…But making people feel weird about that, regardless of whether it’s true or not, is not a nice thing to do. I expect better from you.”

Ryan sat back in his chair, folding his arms and shaking his head. I looked at Rose and tried to communicate a ‘thank you’ with my eyes, but she just looked back plainly at me and shrugged.

We didn’t do great this game, as Chadwick revealed to us after, but hey, every team was allowed an off game. Unfortunately, it was our last practice game we got to do before Districts on Friday. Chadwick gave us a little pep talk and then we were allowed to go, with Ryan walking out first, not even waiting for Sarah.

Out of courtesy, I didn’t say much to Sarah at the Quiz Bowl meeting with Ryan around, but now that he was gone, I met her gaze and looked out the door then back to her, as if to say, “Jeez… huh?”

She shrugged. “Maybe people are tense before Districts.”

Jack laughed. “Yeah. People,” he noted dryly. “Some more than others.”

I turned to Chadwick. “Did this time ever fight before I joined, or am I like this group’s unlucky charm or something?”

Chadwick looked at me humorously. “I’m not going to divulge needless drama upon request, Jason,” she told me sternly yet humorously.

“I will though,” Candy added, laughing. “And yeah, Ryan sometimes gets… we call it, ‘too serious.’”

“I call it something else, but I can’t say it in a classroom,” Rose added, putting her things away. She started to walk out, though I flagged her down with my hand before she could turn away. “What?”

“Just wanted to say, thanks for sticking up with me, especially since it led to some BS for you,” I told her.

Her face didn’t change. “Whatever. I said it because Ryan was wrong to do that. Don’t be weird about it.” Without another word, or letting me reply, she turned back and walked out.

Jack chuckled again. “That’s just how Rose is,” he said, thinking he could read my mind. “You didn’t do anything to tick her off, don’t worry.”

Yeah, okay there, Jack. I turned to Sarah, who seemed friendly enough but didn’t seem like she was in a mood to talk. She must have noticed my stares, and she smiled at me. “You okay, Jason?” she asked.

“Yeah, just… I thought you were good today.”

She chuckled. “Didn’t you see me? I was pretty off.”

“We all were,” Jack chipped in. “We’re just saving our strength for Districts on Friday.”

I scratched my head. “I could have sworn you said we were training for Regionals when I first arrived,” I noted. “Did something get added?”

“Hm? Oh,” Chadwick noted while putting the buzzers back away. “Districts has looser rules, so a team of five can compete. As well, how you do at Districts only makes a small impact on how you fare in the rest of the competition. The teams add their score from Districts to their overall score after Regionals to qualify for Counties. Regionals is where teams start getting eliminated, and unless you score very well at both Districts and Regionals, only the top two teams from every Regionals will make it to Counties.”

“Basically,” Jack added, “Districts is for fun. Regionals is where we start playing for glory.”

“Oh wow, so we literally have nothing to worry about for Districts,” I noted.

“Literally,” Jack agreed.

“It’s good to get a high score there to bolster our performance at Regionals,” Chadwick noted. “It would be amazing to make it to Counties for the first time. But yes, there’s no penalty for a subpar performance.” She paused. “Of course, we’ll still give it everything we got!”

Jack lifted a fist into the air in solidarity. “Hoorah!” he jokingly declared.

Even though I shook my head at him, I had to smile. If nothing else, Jack was Jack. I said my goodbyes then left the room, going out into the hallway. By the time the door closed behind me, I noticed someone was waiting in the hallway by the door. I glanced at her – she was the same nervous-looking cutie with long black hair and glasses from yesterday. I stared at her long enough that she took notice, and I felt I had to say something.

“Here for Jack?” I asked.

“Yeah,” she replied. Her voice actually didn’t sound that timid, but her face sure did. She had braces, big brown eyes, and… one of her arms was pretty badly bruised. I tried not to stare at it for too long. “Want me to get him?”

“Oh no, it’s okay,” she assured me. “I don’t want to bother him.”

I shrugged and turned away, walking off. I didn’t like the look of that bruise, but… ugh. It wasn’t my place. So, I guess Sarah wasn’t lying when she mentioned Jack was dating someone like that. You know what, maybe he actually was a nice guy for offering me the couch. Although my parents never left a bruise like that on me, at least not since-

Nope. Not thinking about that. I shook my head clear of my thoughts and walked down the hallway. On a whim, I decided I was going to leave and walk home via the west entrance today – it was technically faster, and it was just past the art room, and I was kinda close to it. I always used the main entrance, but hey, there was no harm in a lil’ variety.

As I walked up to the art room, I heard a voice – no, voices. I walked up to the corner and peered around it to see Rose and Ryan arguing.

“I don’t care,” Rose told him defiantly. “Make up whatever fanfiction you want. But you’re pissing me off, you’re pissing Jack off, and you’re pissing Jason off.”

Ryan sighed exasperatedly. “Look Rose, I just get into the game-”

“And I’m telling you to stop. It’s as simple as that. No wonder people barely ever join our group when you get like this every few weeks,” she annoyedly told him.

“And Jack is not pissed off, by the way, we’re as tight as ever,” Ryan defended himself.

“That’s because he’s classier than I am. I just hate pretending. Jack can smile and act like nothing is wrong, but he does that with everyone he’s got his eye on. I’m just gonna tell it to you like it is,” she replied. She was clearly pacing, because despite being around the corner, I saw her back briefly come into view a few times.

“Alright, whatever,” Ryan accepted, backing down. “God damn, I thought you were cooler than this, Rose. I kinda miss having lunch together making fun of Jason or whatever.” I sighed quietly. I wasn’t surprised. “Now you’re going to bat for him?”

“Yeah, about that, that was so uncool of you to go all, ‘oh, you took his side once? You must have a crush on him!!’ Grow up, you weirdo,” Rose argued. “If I’m taking his side, it’s because you annoyed me more than him. Deal with it.”

“I just said that because it felt like you were ganging up on me. Plus, it turns out I was right, you-”

“Oh my God, you bonehead,” Rose scoffed. “We weren’t actually talking about you. We had a bet going.”

“A bet?” Ryan asked.

“Who could answer the most questions correctly during today’s practice,” she clarified. “Well, the final round, since both of us were alternates for one of the-”

“I know, I was kinda there, thanks,” Ryan shot back condescendingly. He was silent for a bit. “I wasn’t expecting you to get cozy with him, Rose.”

“And I wasn’t expecting you to be too dense to see he still is an annoying and rude guy,” Rose countered. “Lately he’s been nicer, so I’ve been nicer to him. I guess he changed for whatever reason. Maybe he got a girlfriend or something.”

I froze. I didn’t like the way she said that.

Ryan’s tone changed too. “That’s not funny, Rose.”

“I’m just saying,” Rose countered. Neither of them talked after that, with Ryan probably storming off. Uh oh… I could only hope Sarah wouldn’t get another lecture from him. Did he even know the hickies Sarah had were mine…? Well, now he was getting paranoid about me regardless, so, thanks, Rose.

If nothing else, that was an important lesson… she may have been kinder to me when I was kinder to her, but that didn’t change who she was at the core. A bitch is a bitch is a bitch, and some people can’t switch off their Bitch Switch. Maybe I needed to just accept that.

***

My palms were against the wall for support. I thrust forwards, humping Sarah’s face, with her eagerly taking my whole cock over and over. Both of us had taken off our clothes long ago, and had been going at this for a lot longer than either of us would have guessed.

When Sarah spontaneously asked me to hang out, of course I said yes immediately, but I assumed I had to sweet-talk her into any actual sex. But nope, right when her bedroom door closed, my back was against the wall, with her tongue fighting with mine. She made it clear she still didn’t go all the way, but I wouldn’t say I got screwed over with the options we still had left.

“Fuck…” I groaned, watching her take my dick into her mouth over and over. I couldn’t hold back much longer, and grunted one last time, feeling my cum spurt out like bullets out of a fucking gun. Sarah took the shots well and with grace, swallowing every drop. Fuck, she was amazing.

I went weak in the knees and nearly collapsed on top of her, but luckily I was able to stumble to the bed and flop over backwards, looking up at her ceiling and breathing heavily. “Fuck, you’re… you’re…” I breathed.

“You’re amazing too,” Sarah laughed. She stood up over me, playing with my still-hard cock.

“Careful, remember what I said, it’s sensitive,” I warned.

“How about that, I found a part of Jason that’s sensitive,” she teased.

“Jeez, c’mon,” I playfully argued back. “I have my moments!” I paused. “Actually, I wanted to ask, does Ryan know about what we’re doing?”

Her smile vanished. “Why?”

“I kinda sorta overheard Rose and Ryan arguing after Quiz Bowl. She was pissed off with him for saying the crush thing, and-” My breath caught in my throat. The crucial key to the puzzle was that I told Rose I had a crush on Sarah. If she knew that, that would be… bad.

“…And?” Sarah pressed me. “What did she do?”

“Well, she really made him angry,” I half-lied. “I don’t think he’s a big fan of me right now. So, y’know, I wanna avoid any more drama with the guy, so I wanted to know if he knows anything.”

Sarah stared at me for a bit. “I see,” she replied slowly. “Um, no, I haven’t told him about us. I shouldn’t have told you about him either, but hey, it’s out now.” She sat down next to me, and I sat up. Even during this conversation, I couldn’t take my eyes off her ass. It was every bit as amazing as I thought it would be. “Eyes up here if we’re talking about this, bucko,” she laughed, gesturing to her eyes.

I begrudgingly looked up at her eyes. “I mean, that was it,” I told her. “Ryan’s just getting more annoying lately.”

Sarah looked down at her feet. “I’ll admit that he’s a little harder to handle lately,” she said quietly. “But that’s something he’s working through. And by the way, I’m trying to tell him to be gentler towards you. It’s just that… well, you touched on it, Ryan thinks that I might have a soft spot for you.”

I nodded. “Ryan seems to think that any girl who is nice to any guy has to be because they have schoolgirl crushes on them.”

Sarah rolled her eyes viscerally. Clearly I hit the nail on the head. “Yeah, it’s the worst thing about him,” she confessed. “He’s possessive and sees any friendships girls have as like an ulterior motive. Do you want to know something, but you have to promise that you never say it to anyone?”

I nodded diligently.

“Okay. But I mean it.” She inhaled, then exhaled. “That’s the entire reason I’m not dating Ryan. Like, yeah, I had a crush on him for a while, but I realized pretty early on that if I dated him, I wouldn’t be able to have guy friends. I don’t have, like, a ton, but I still want the option, you know?”

I nodded along even though I definitely did not get any of this. I was basically a complete novice to relationships and sex and all that shit and even I knew that acting like your girlfriend can’t have male friends is some psycho shit. She was talking about this guy like he was normal.

She accepted my silence and continued. “So yeah. He’s cool, but he would make a bad boyfriend. I haven’t said anything to him about it yet, but I want to talk to him about the Rose thing today, because if he’s now using it whenever she’s nice to any boy… well, like, she’s not exactly nice to people in the first place.”

“Yeah, I noticed,” I scoffed. “At least she’s not just picking on me now.”

Sarah gave me a smirk. “Yeah, but don’t go thinking she hates all men or something.”

“Hey! I apologized for that!” I defended myself.

“Anyway, Rose doesn’t exactly need to be encouraged to not have guy friends. I’m kind of concerned about her,” she admitted.

“She seems fine,” I admitted. “Honestly, even though she pisses me off a lot, I feel like I… get her more than anyone else at Quiz Bowl.” I looked at Sarah, who had raised her eyebrows. “Apart from you, of course.”

“If you say so,” she laughed. “But yeah, I’ll handle Ryan. Just don’t do anything… too Jason-y.”

“I won’t do anything uncalled for,” I told her. “But if he’s a dick to me first…”

Sarah groaned.

***

As if I needed another reason to think Quiz Bowl was fucking awesome, I got the whole day off on Friday. Instead of going to class, I got to go to another school. It was Districts time, baby.

The only downside was waiting on the school steps for the bus to come, which was boring as hell. Luckily, Jack was anything but two things: boring, or quiet.

“And then when you open the door, it triggers both the confetti and starts a speaker playing ‘Rock Your Body,’ on loop, with no off switch,” he told us with a grin.

“And is that going to be your actual senior prank or is that just a fun idea?” Sarah asked him with a giggle.

Jack shrugged. “That all depends on how much confetti I can get my hands on before the school year is over.” He looked around at all of us. “And hey, it’s more creative than just burning another penis into the football field or something.”

Rose wasn’t paying attention. She had thick headphones on and was looking away from us. Candy was intently listening to Jack, sitting next to him – if I didn’t see his girlfriend twice, I would have thought Candy was dating him, but maybe thinking like that didn’t make me any better than Ryan.

Speaking of, Ryan himself was weirdly quiet, even though he normally led conversations with the Quiz Bowl team. He wasn’t being condescending, he wasn’t being confident… hell, he barely said anything to anyone. With him giving us the silent treatment and Rose off in her own little world, maybe it was good that Jack took the charge with his senior prank bullshit.

As Jack was halfway through his next topic – ranking pizza toppings by texture alone – I heard Rose next to me mutter a single word.

“Finally.”

I looked at her, then off towards where she was looking. On the asphalt, a bus was turning the corner and heading to us. On cue, as soon as it neared us, Mrs. Chadwick exited the front doors of the school, joining us. “That’s our bus, everyone! Let’s go!” she said hastily, no doubt worried we were going to be late.

Jack had completely abandoned his topic and was sprinting at the stopping bus, yelling out, “There is a God~!” Rose had already started walking too, and Sarah and Candy weren’t too far behind. Before I could even register that Ryan wasn’t among them, I felt a hand on my shoulder.

“Hey,” Ryan said as I spun around. “Mind if I say something to you quickly?”

Oh boy. Here we go. More drama from the great artist himself. What self-praising bullshit was he gonna feed me this time? “Uh, sure,” I said nonchalantly, playing dumb.

“So, uh…” He shifted his feet where he stood, and looked down at the ground. “So I’ve kinda been thinking, and I think I was too harsh on you for the last few practices,” he told me. My brow furrowed. “I might have been a bit of a dick, and that’s not cool of me. I get really into this stuff, but I don’t want it to affect you, or the team, or anything. So hey, I’m sorry.”

Huh. Well, that was unexpected. It didn’t really mean much – I mean, I overheard him talking to Rose about how they used to make fun of me when I wasn’t there – but it was a nice enough gesture, I guess.

“I mean, whatever,” I replied, shrugging. “I get it, I’m the new guy, and I’m not exactly trying to be friendly either. If you wanna get… if you wanna feel like… y’know, if this stuff means a lot to you, you’re gonna rage from time to time. I get it.”

“Um, alright,” Ryan replied. “So, are we cool?”

“Yeah, we’re cool,” I admitted. “For what it’s worth, I’m not trying to piss you off.”

“Me either,” he replied. “Maybe spending more time around each other is gonna help.”

I chuckled. “Maybe winning Districts would help more,” I suggested.

He looked up from the ground and smiled. “Fuck yeah, dude,” he said supportively, clapping a hand on my back. “Let’s give ‘em hell!”

It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it was a good start. Rose was okay with me, Ryan was okay with me, and Sarah and I were pretty fuckin’ okay with each other. We knew how to work with each other, even there were a few hiccups, and we all knew we were the best team Hazelwood was going to get for this game. Now all we had to do was step up to the plate and give these other teams a run for their money. It was time to see just how much the Hazelwood team could do.
