[New Piece Posted!] Spite

Heh.

Okay, so:

For those that don’t know, I actually got started writing erotica out of spite. Especially when I was 18, a lot of the high-stakes emotions you see in my stories lay dormant within me, begging to come out at a moment’s notice. I was a frequent reader of online erotica, and one of my favorite stories published a new chapter… a chapter that made creative choices that I didn’t particularly like. I thought those choices were doing the story a disservice, so I decided to leave an anonymous comment. I checked back an hour later to see, gasp, the horror! The comment was gone!

I assumed the writer deleted my scathing comment, wrapped in the comfort that it was an anonymous comment from a nobody. I got angry. I thought to myself, “Oh yeah? You think you can just delete my comment because you’re this big-shot writer and I’m just a nobody? Well, fine! I’ll just write my own story and become a somebody!” Within 72 hours, Chapter One of Being More Social was posted and written. No, really, that’s the exact way I got started. Bashful Scribe as a persona got started out of spite.

Fun fact: It turns out that writer didn’t even delete the comment, and the website just fucked up. I later got in contact with this writer and we became fast friends, and I even visited him in person. He’s a really nice guy. He thinks the spite story is hilarious.

So what does this story have to do with anything? Well, a few of you will likely remember my blog on Dining and Dashing recently, and how I completed a big commission only to discover the commissioner left me unpaid for a particularly large piece. I hmm’d and haw’d about what to do with this piece, given I really liked the premise (and as you may soon discover, had to do a lot of research to create it faithfully) but I didn’t want to just post it and reward the commissioner. Well, I looked to the past for answers, and came up with a solution that satisfies myself and makes available not only a first chapter, but a second chapter too, which I will post soon. Spite has, once again, helped me out.

You see, the original commission asked for a simple premise: An early-bloomer popular guy in high school starts playing a particular online game, and his sister’s hottest nerd-friend who plays it takes notice in him and completely submits. I had fun playing with it, but the story is undeniably a wish fulfillment story where a nerdy girl falls for a complete stud several years younger than her – a stud who acts all cool and is totally awesome and – you get it. It was a new dynamic but I still wrote it faithfully, and the promised high payment meant I prioritized it heavily. Plus, I had several chapters’ worth of story already fully written, and once the Diner Dashed, I still wanted to be able to use what I did and give people a story they enjoyed. So what could I do? Posting it would teach people they can just do this to me, and withholding it would still mean I was disadvantaged. What’s left?

Enter: spite. I’ve reworked the story entirely, in ways that likely won’t manifest until chapter 3 or 4. I’ve changed the dynamic completely, and I want the world to know feel and believe that this is the story instead. So, I’m proud to say: Dragon Slayer Chapter 1 has been posted, and I’m virtually done Chapter 2 and will, I guarantee this, post it by an absolute deadline of the 14th of July (just to space them out and knowing I may not have internet on Monday the 13th; long story).

My biggest hesitation in posting this was the knowledge that I now have a lot of longform stories on the go, and it’s going to be hard to juggle them all ,and make my readers simultaneously care about them and feel satisfied with their progress. Do I have a plan for that? Frankly, no! I’m flying by the seat of my pants here. But the alternative would have meant not posting this at all, which would have been a shame, and plus, the story has been a blast to write. I hope you similarly enjoy reading it. Go read it now; I’ll talk to you all soon.
