Bashful Scribe the Voyeur

Edit

After I finish this blog post, I’ll put my poll up. Patrons will have their pick of what smutty story I write next. Huzzah! Democracy in action. Now, let’s talk about the story I wrote.

Something that kind of bothers me is a signature style, kink, phrase or anything else that immediately identifies an author. To an extent this should be a good thing – if your stories are truly indistinguishable from all of the other sex stories of the website, you haven’t done anything to stand out. That said, if I showed you a story from White Walls and a story from mypenname3000, if you’ve been reading online smut for a while you’d be able to identify which one was, say ,written by White Walls.

Just look for the one that’s better written.

Certain authors can’t help but write about their favorite fetishes, over and over again. There’s an author who writes interestingly who has been on my radar for a bit – RawlyRawls. I don’t care much for their work fetish-wise (again, incest is a turn-off for me) but his writing style is compelling enough that I’ve read all of their works. And while their writing is compelling, strip away the specifics and their stories are the same story every time – a supernatural force takes over the son of a household, gives him a big dick and he cuckolds his father. This has happened I believe five times in three stories, six if you count cuckolding an older brother. I can’t help but wonder if this is a weakness a lot of erotica writers have.

I wonder if these fetishes bleed through our writing without even our knowledge (kind of like how people can tell the famous director Quentin Tarantino has a foot fetish). I wonder what fetishes my favorite erotica authors have, and if it shows. I wonder what the heck people think are my fetishes. Looking back on my work, I bet people think I’m into cheating, given that it’s in a lot of my work. Or worse yet, that I have a rape fetish.

I think I write about tricky situations in sex concerning feelings a lot, so faithfulness and consent are going to come up a lot, but I can’t be over ever reader’s shoulder explaining that. Maybe RandyRawls wants to write about the family dynamic or warn about under-observant father figures. Does that intention really matter? Sadly not. So I wanted to give myself a challenge with the newest story, When in Toronto, and write about a fetish I don’t have.

Firstly, to anyone who emailed me with feedback, thank you very much for taking the time to do that. I found it really funny how many people pointed out that this one was my least realistic piece yet – for better or for worse I suppose – given how unrealistic a lot of free smut is. I guess I’m being compared to my past works now. I’m reaping what I sow by grounding myself in realism. I should get a little sillier with my premises.

One reader cheerfully noted, “I didn’t know you had a voyeurism fetish!” and I don’t. I want to try writing for audiences that aren’t just like-minded individuals, and this story was a good place to start. Needless to say I’ve written stories, and chapters (Chapter 8 of GBM comes to mind) where the goal was not sexual in nature, but it was interesting to include a fetish that I don’t share that didn’t have some deeper meaning about consent of feelings or something.

At any rate, I hope the story was enjoyed. If you have any thoughts on it, as always, I’d love to hear from you. Now to get that poll up and start the next story. I’ll talk to you all next week.
